PHOENIX -- A Valley father will soon be arrested and charged in the death of his 5-year-old son, Phoenix police said late Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the boy’s aunt found Troy Campbell, 5, and his father, Nashawn Campbell, 38, in a room late Tuesday afternoon -- both with their throats slit. The boy did not survive.Investigators do not believe anyone else had been inside the central Phoenix home the three family members shared.Nashawn Campbell is in the hospital in serious condition.

Family members rushed to the scene in central Phoenix. As they learned what happened, they were overwhelmed by grief.“It’s just tragic. It’s my nephew. My family,” said Lok, an uncle, who only gave his first name.Family members shared pictures and stories about Tony.“A happy, fun-loving 5-year-old child, who loved his father and auntie,” said Stacey Moran, a relative.Relatives said they had seen the boy recently, and were not aware of anything wrong in the family.

Court documents show a judge awarded Campbell sole custody of his son last summer. Three months ago, the boy's natural mother filed to get that changed. She was asking the court to give her sole custody. Police confirmed they are looking into the possibility Campbell may have killed Tony then tried to take his own life. Investigators also said the case is still under investigation, and they must consider all the possible scenarios.
