WHAT DATA DO WE COLLECT?
We collect two types of user data:
(1) anonymous data that is automatically collected from all visitors to the SFV website; and
(2) personally-identifiable data that you voluntarily submit to us in our webforms.

Anonymous Data. We automatically collect Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and domain names through our server and through cookies. (See the section on Cookies below for more information.) We also track the number and frequency of hits per page on an aggregate basis. Collecting this anonymous information helps us improve our website.

Personal Data. We also collect all data that you voluntarily provide when you fill in webforms on our site that request personal information.  This information may include your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, the contents of your messages to legislators or other government officials, petition comments, your messages to the media or on our message boards, a history of your purchases from or contributions to Stop Family Violence, or any other data you provide when filling in Stop Family Violence webforms.

COOKIES
We collect some data through the use of cookies. A cookie is a small piece of data that is sent from our web server and stored on your computer. A cookie cannot read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other websites. Cookies do not damage your system. Cookies are stored on your computer, and are not stored anywhere on the SFV website or database. We may use long term cookies that are stored on your hard drive, or session cookies, which are stored in your computer’s temporary memory system. When you leave our website, the session cookie expires.

Why do we use cookies?
Our website uses cookies to facilitate your use of our website. We may use cookies for any of the following reasons:

We use long-term cookies only when you select a "remember me" option on the SFV website, for example the "remember me" option offered in most places you fill in your name and contact information. If you select “remember me”, a long-term cookie will be stored on your computer's hard drive solely for the purpose of automatically filling in the remembered information, for example, automatically filling in your postal address next time you write a letter to your legislator. The "remember" option is offered only for your convenience and is completely voluntary. If you do not select a "remember" option, no Long-Term Cookie will be stored on your computer's hard drive.

If you select "text-only" format for the online newsletter, it will not contain any session cookies.
